Contributing to Everyday Lives Journal
The Journal is being developed as a collaborative international publication in which documentary photographs become starting points for deeper stories about people, place and culture.
Who we hope to work with
Photographers and knowledgeable local voices
Potential contributors may include documentary photographers, photojournalists, journalists, writers, historians, architects, academics, musicians, artists, researchers, translators and other people whose knowledge can deepen the documentary record.
The first issue begins with India. Future work is intended to extend wherever the Everyday Lives Documentary Archive develops substantial photographic projects.
Editorial principles
Independent voices, clearly credited
There is no requirement that a contribution support the founder's interpretation of a place or photograph. Different perspectives are valuable. The Journal is interested in informed context, first-hand knowledge, strong visual work and thoughtful disagreement where appropriate.
The founder's own photography has no automatic editorial priority. The strongest and most relevant work for an issue should determine the space it receives.
Contributors retain copyright. Publication, archival and promotional permissions will be agreed in writing before use. Editing, cropping, captions and attribution will be handled transparently with the contributor.
Current stage
The first conversations come before the first issue
The Journal is currently in editorial development. The initial India phase is beginning with direct conversations rather than an open-call submission system. Those conversations are intended not only to identify work for publication, but also to test and improve the editorial model before the inaugural issue is fixed.
